Global Tapestry of Alternatives (GTA) Gathering in Kenya - August 2023

The Global Tapestry of Alternatives has invited their weavers and endorsers to meet in person for the first time after the pandemic. The gathering took place in Nanyuki from August 8th through 14th in a lodge on the feet of Mount Kenya. About 60 people from various countries in the world were open to sharing their struggles, resistance, and alternatives to oppression. Here is a list of participants with their bios.

It was one of the most touching gatherings I have ever participated in. People who have been on the ground resisting and persisting were together to exchange experiences and love for one another. I felt at some point overwhelmed and small with so much emotion. But at the same time, happy and hopeful for the future of humanity. Amidst so much intensity, there was laughter, crying, dancing, weaving, cooking, discussion, and sharing of food for the body and soul.

Getting to and Arriving in Kenya

Kenya is far and away!! I took a 13.5h to Dubai going West and then a 5h flight going South. My 53 year old body was tired but my 21 year young mind was so excited that I only felt tired on the 3rd day. See more descriptions and pictures clicking on link bellow.

A Warm Welcome to the Land

Early the next day we were invited to meet with the village elders on their holy ground. They wanted to make sure we understood how appreciative they were to have us there. We pray together facing Mount Kenya. The respect for nature and for the community were profound. We all understood how special that week was going to be. Minds at Work, Understanding Our Connection

After eating we started our program with a warm activity where we need to look at each other in the eyes. They brought us to a silence connection of the soul. Then we were ready to understand more about our connections to the cause: justice. The link bellow will take you to more pictures.

Body and Soul Nourishment

Nourishing the body and the soul was part of understanding each other as human beings. Laughing, cooking, weaving, dancing, walking together and exchanging gifts were ways to fulfill the promise of creating love and friendship amongst ourselves. Kenyans and Their Warm and Colorful Culture

Kenyans are colorful, loud, cordial and in many ways they make you feel at home. They dance and you need to dance with them. They sing and you need to sing with them, they eat and drink and you can't scape that either. There is no way to not smile when you are in Kenya. Click bellow to feel this experience.

Wild Life at Its Best

Wild is beautiful! Be the wild and be with the wild brings a visceral feeling of being alive. The animals, the people , the landscape, the air seem to emulate a sense of untaped (wild) nature. You can't help it but to also feel part of it. It is in a sense very freeing. The link bellow takes you to this place.
